A behind the scenes look at Lisa Cannon & Richard Keately’s Wedding by their Irish Wedding Planner

As a Wedding Planner, I get to work with some pretty amazing people and help them to realize their dream of an amazing wedding day ! This year has been no exception, we have been all over Ireland and indeed the world with some truly amazing people and today I’m going to share {with kind permission} one very special wedding that happened a little over a week ago.

When Lisa & Richard announced their engagement and later called me up to see if I was available to help them plan their wedding I was excited and terrified – in a good way 🙂

Over cocktails Lisa told me her vision and what she wanted – and as you’d expect it was amazingly exciting ! At the end of that first conversation she asked me… ‘can we do this ?’ … and without hesitation I said {in the words of Obama} ‘Yes we can !’ – even though {at that point} I had no idea how…  but oh boy did we do it in spades !

While international weddings isn’t something that is new to us here at The Wedding Expert, planning them from Ireland, with a language barrier and the Italian red tape has its challenges ! But as it always does, everything fell into place 🙂

Because weddings are utterly visual and when you’ve one of Ireland’s most stylish couples sitting in front of you talking themes, decor, colours and ideas things can get a little exciting ! When we first spoke, Lisa said she wanted a Shabby Chic vibe to her wedding… I think you’ll all agree, that there was nothing shabby about this wedding and that initial idea took on a life of its own and developed into a beautiful Chic & Elegant Romantic Affair with a beautiful soft palette of nudes, blushes and mauves – utterly timeless.

As you’ll probably have read Lisa & Richard exchanged vows in the quaint little church, Chiesa di San Martino a Maiano located in the foothills of Florence, which was celebrated by the wonderfully witty Fr. Michael Savage, an English Priest based in Rome. The tiny church, on the outskirts of Fiseole, had just about enough room for their 103 guests.

The church decor is all down to two very special and unbelievably talented people.

Before the magic happened 🙂

The church after the magic !

The stunning church flowers where designed and created by the fabulous floral artiste Josephine Higginbottom {and her amazing team} from Wedding Flowers by Josephine  based in Co. Kildare in Ireland but who travel nation and indeed worldwide ! Josephine and her crew drove from Kildare, first to Holland {to bid on and collect some very special flowers} and then on to Fiseole, in the foothills of Florence, where an onsite workshop was created for them to work their magic !

The second person who created the truly spectacular setting for Lisa & Richard to say ‘I do’ in was Ricard Delahunty of Varak & Clyde Crafts. Ricard, who has been designing and personally handcrafting piece after piece for Lisa and Richard’s wedding for the best part of a year, left his workshop in Kilkenny 4 days before the wedding to drive and assemble everything onsite himself.

Was the bride late ?

Maybe just a little, but the guests were lucky to have, not 1, not 2 but 3 amazingly talented musical ‘groups’ in the church to entertain them. A spectacular Italian String Trio, the wonderful Shane from Harlequin on acoustic guitar & vocals, and none other than the Opera Singer George Hutton provided the musical accompaniment to the wedding ceremony.

The Bling ! Aka the rings !

Lisa walked down an ivory aisle covered in over 5000 rose petals that had been sealed off to  guests by a sign ‘ Our Story Begins Here’ made by the lovely Lynda at Watching over the ceremony where photos of Lisa’s mum, who had sadly passed away, and her 102 year old granny who was unable to make the trip.

The ceremony lasted an hour, and the newly weds emerged into the afternoon sunshine for that first official photo on the steps of the small Chiesa snapped by John Ryan of John Ryan Photography. The bride wore a stunning Suzanne Neville wedding dress with vintage {sparkling} details to the ceremony that was bought through Kadee Bridal in Athlone and fitted personally by Suzanne in her Knightsbrook Studio. Her shoes {of course} were Jimmy Choos. The groom embodied James Bond in Tom Ford. #thosemuscles !

Her three gorgeous bridesmaids, lifetime friends, Cathy, Meave & Zoe each wore a bespoke dress by Synan O’ Mahony – positively stunning dresses – I was up close and imitate with them {the dresses} the night before when I steamed them 🙂 Their head pieces are from Azure Jewellery a company I knew {magpie} Lisa would adore !  With gorgeous sparkly heels from LK Bennet.

Where Lisa & Richard celebrated their wedding breakfast has its own beautiful {and slightly sad} love story, with an ending that sees a ghost bride ‘looking after’ all the couples who marry there. The Castello di Vincigliata is truly stunning on its own but our teams worked their magic here too. {On arrival Lisa asked me how long set up took… I smiled sweetly and said only 5 minutes … the blood, sweat and tears that went into it will remain a secret,  but what can I tell you about how wonderful the reception was ?}

The guests enjoyed the Aperitivo in the gardens, eating tuscan hams and drinking champagne while Jazz music {by Harlequin} filled the air. They had a chance to take photos with the Austin Spyder, explore the castle and find the many photo opportunities we had created for them in the Italian Castle and relax in the evening sun. Their escort cards & keys hung from a tree in the garden telling them which of the ‘Hero’ tables they would be sat at.

As the sun dipped, Lisa & Richard had prepared a special tribute to Lisa’s mum; a short video montage of her life and the release of 100 white balloons in her memory into the evening sunset. #notadryeyeinthehouse

To liven things back up again the guests moved into the Castello’s Courtyard to take their seats for the speeches and meal. But first lets marvel at the gorgeousness of the tables…

The lucky guests received, not one, but two gifts from Lisa & Richard to thank them for attending their wedding day. A beautiful personalised candle from and a heart shaped, hand carved votive holder from Varak & Clyde Crafts. Scroll menus opened to show the guests what delicious food they would be served – all part of a beautiful set designed & created by Top Table Designs that matched the Scroll inspired Table Plan and Place-name cards.

Josephine from Wedding Flowers by Josephine continued her magic on the tables with Candelabras draped in Ivy & Pearls and encircled by domes of baby’s breath and a trio of vases of delicate flowers. Each of the tables was named after one of the couples heros or inspirational people and they included people like: John Lennon, The Who, Martin Scorsese and Walt Disney.

Wedding scents are a must for weddings right now and Lisa & Richard fragranced the air with two sensuous ones !  Both from Brooke & Shoals, the bouquet of White Lily & Ylang Ylang Candles filled the air during the meal and later in the evening the spicier scent of Sandalwood & Precious Amber Candles surrounded the guests as they danced the night away.

Perludio, the same caterers used by Kim Kardashian, delighted the taste buds of all 105 enjoying the wedding breakfast of 6 lavish courses ! The meal was preceded by the most anticipated speeches. Tears, laughter, song and dance all formed part of the 5 speeches and Lisa had even prepared a very special little video for Richard giving him advice on ‘how to survive’ marriage from some very special faces like Channing Tantum,, Will Smith and one or two faces from Dowton Abbey !

After dinner was cake time… and oh what a cake… the cake designed and created {and driven from Cork to Florence} by Couture Cake Designer Tracy Desmond of Trace of Cakes. The cake was a real piste de resistance ! Sitting upon its specially made Castle Inspired Cake Table by Varak & Clyde Crafts, the 5 tiered masterpiece was literally the ‘icing on the cake’ to a perfect day … but it didn’t stop there !

With the formalities of the day over, it was time to ‘get the party started’ !!

Richard’s Room aka the Whiskey & Cigar bar opened with its stunning views {at the top of the Castello} over Florence. A one of a kind Photo Booth by Varak & Clyde Crafts offered yet another gorgeous setting for the glamorous guests to snap themselves and Harlequin – band extraordinaire – were ready to start the night off with a bang !

Lisa Cannon Get the Party Started

But first, a dress change for our bride, into her second Suzanne Neville wedding dress of the day. This time something a little slinkier and sexier – again from Kadee Bridal in Athlone. Moving away a little from the vintage detailing, this second dress had strong art deco influences. #Stunning !!

First dance anyone ?

And boy was it ! Choreographed by Jane Shorthall to Mark Ronson’s Uptown Funk, Lisa & Richard really ‘cut up’ the dance-floor and got the night off to a terrific start. The {needs no introduction} Irish Band Harlequin too made the journey by plane, boat and automobile to be there and provided an amazing party atmosphere ! And so that the party would never end Irish DJ Alan Geraghty ‘took to the decks’ and brought us all into the wee hours of the morning…

Aw but did you really think that was it ? no… when you’re a show biz gal you’ll want something big to wow your guests… wont you ? You could be like everyone else and have some dancers… or like some others and have fireworks… but what if you mixed the two and had fire dancers ? Now that would really be a way to end a night – wouldn’t it ? And what if those fire dancers were on Italy’s Got Talent – now you’re sure they were impressive ! #theywere !

And while the party lasted long after the flames of the fire dances had extinguished you can be pretty sure that bride, groom and all their guests truly enjoyed themselves… in fact I heard a little bride and groom say …

“It was the best wedding we’ve ever been to and it was our own !” – Lisa & Richard
